Changing alarm sensor

Does anyone know if you need the engineers code to replace an alarm sensor on a window? Also is it just a matter of swapping the old for the new, or would it need to be reprogrammed into the panel? Just wondering if I need to get the alarm people out to replace it or could we do it ourselves.

Worst case scenario your alarm will go off when you open the old sensor to replace it. You should be able to silence it again by typing in your normal code. And no, you wont need to do any reprogramming.
I would however advise caution nowadays before interfering, as alarm installations must be carried out by authorised companies. You might affect your house insurance (discount for NSAI installed alarm?) if you mess about with it yourself.
