changing address while on JA

hey folks, just wondering how it will affect me to change address. have been living with my parents but i want to move into a house with two friends, both of whom are also on JA. what will my local dole office require from me to get this sorted. thanks.

You should just call into your local SW office and tell them you're changing address - they usually ask for some evidence (e.g. a letter from landlord, rent book, tenancy agreement etc).

If the new address isn't close to where you currently live, your claim might be transferred to another SW office.

The only way that the other tenants situation will affect you is if two of you become a couple - you would be assessed as a couple and your payments might change.

I think if you've been living at home getting rent allowance will be difficult.

As Derek says, you would be unlikly to qualify for rent allowance. You need to have been renting for 6 months, and show you could afford it when you moved in.
As for your JA, you may have trouble getting proof of your residency if the landlords aren't legit, and won't give paperwork.

If you can't get anything off the landlord, a household bill in your name (ESB, gas, UPC etc) in your name would be enough to prove your residency in the new place. If none of those will be in your name, try bringing in a bank statement with your new address on it. The OP will not qualify for rent allowance. As Berni said, you have to have been renting privately for a least 6 months before you qualify for it. But as the OP never mentioned it in the first place I imagine its not a concern for them.

If the landlord is not paying tax on his rental income, that is an issue between him and the tax man. His tenants have nothing to do with it.
