I was listening to newstalk this morning and they said that changes are afoot to make it so that second time provisional holders cannot drive alone. Does anyone have anymore information on this?

I'm currently coming to the end of my first one and have been driving for over 6 months with another driver. I've got a car but waiting for someone to be available to go out in the car isn't always practical so I was looking forward to getting out on my own and getting as much practice and experience in as possible before my test.

Re: changes to the provisional?

There was a story in yesterday's Sunday Times to the effect that second time provisional licence holders would no longer be allowed to drive unaccompanied.

Re: changes to the provisional?

These changes have been afoot for about 4 years... thats why the driving test list went from 10 weeks to a year, and hasn't come back down since...

Re: changes to the provisional?

Average waiting time is now 25 weeks according to the same article and that is why they feel this law can be introduced/enforced.

Re: changes to the provisional?

Waste of time. Like so may other laws - seat belts, fog lights, yada, yada....it will not be enforced.

Shame they couldnt be bothered to update their website to show current pass rates and waiting times for those who want to do their test, of course its run by civil servants so why am i surprised....
