Hi

I hope this is right place for this!

I work in a sales role - while I get commission, I have no targets set in concrete. I have worked there 4 years, and is a small company. About 2 years ago, there was another sales person hired, and they have done good sales - approx 40% more than mine.

In the last 12 months, things have gone bad, and my boss has come to me and said he has to drop one of the sales positions. He explains as my sales are the less, he must drop my position (there is a slight difference in our job description). He offers me two options:

1/. Redundncy - the minimum obligation - but I can reapply for a new part-time position at less money, with less responsibility..

2/. My hours are cut by 50% and I can claim social welfare.. but there will be no redundancy.

Is this right? What should I do? Maybe good for me to take social welfare and go to college in evenings for new qualification? Am I mad?

Should it not be the new person who is cut as I have no set target?

Any help, would be great. Thanks.

Option 1: you could take the redundancy and if you get the P/T position (or is this just a ruse to get you to go?), you can still claim Sw for days not working.
Option 2: Seems same as 1 except no redundancy?

In answer -

1. If I accept redundancy - I have to reapply for the job - the job will be offered to best candidate and may be at a lower level of pay, less flexible hours than my colleague.

2.If I accept the cut hours option - no redundancy, same level of pay, same conditions.

I think my employer is decent and good - and is being open - I know for a few years things were bad - and he worked with me hoping things got better. But maybe you are right, and he wants to replace me?

Should he cut the last person in? Even though they perform better?
