Change of name on flight reservation

Hi there.
My sister booked a flight for our mother under her everyday name Sally. However she remebered that her "official" name is Sarah(as on passport). She guessed that this may present a problem,so she rang Aer Lingus(flight isn't until next Sept) & they said there would be a E70 charge for the "administration".
Now,I know it's a cliche to say it's not the money but the principle, but is there any way that this fee can be waived?
It seems ridiculously excessive.

There was a recent thread where Ryanair charged nothing for amending the spelling of a name. However, in your mother's case it's more or less a complete name change so the €35 each way administration charge is standard. Under no cirumstances should they just try and turn up and hope for the best...that way Aer Lingus will charge her for a new flight at that day's rate which will be hundreds.
A relatively expensive mistake

That is pretty normal in my experience (title, initial of first name and surname).
