certified documents for a financial institution

Sorry if been asked previously. I need certified proof of identity (i.e. passport or driving licence copy) and proof of address. Can I print these copies myself and get an an post member of staff to certify them?
I have only seen answers in relation to citizenship application which requires the certifier to make the copies but I don't think that applies here?
 
Take the original documents in to the financial institution and have them make copies on-site. A utility bill (gas, water, electricity, waste) dated within the last month (3 months?) will suffice as proof of address.

They have said that a certification from a finanical institution will suffice
or solicitior/gard etc
apparently gardai don't do this anymore

I am asking can the finanical institution be a post office?
 
I would say that there's certainly someone in Post Office that could certify the documents 'Certified copy of original sighted at (location) on (date)'
 
Are you sure about the Gardai? If it's to comply with money laundering legislation, then they should engage.

I have gone to local post office and they certified documents for me not too long ago so handy option. They were very helpful and appeared to do them on a regular basis. I suppose it would be best to check with your financial institution and see if they would accept the post office certification. If its not too much hassle maybe just get it done in the post office and chance it that way.
 
See if there is a Peace Commissioner locally. Councillors are often Peace Commissioners.

They have the legal power to certify documents and may not charge you.
