Central London Hotel - contemporary style?

Been looking through the various posts and there are plenty of posts recommending which site to book through but I could do with help about location and style.

Looking for a weekend stay in a central London hotel (want to be able to walk as much as possible to museums etc) but also PLEEEASE no flowery decor - makes my stomach churn!!!!

Not looking for the cheapest but happy to pay approx E300 for the 2 nights. Looking at the various discount sites this looks reasonable. Again my problem is not knowing London and not knowing whereabouts to book.

Also - desperately looking for chic contemporary style!!

HELP much appreciated!

We recently stayed in the Parkcity in Kensington. It's a really nice hotel, and close to the tube station on Gloucester Road/Earl's Court which gets you into Piccadilly in approx. 15 minutes. It's nice and modern - definitely no flowery. chintzy stuff going on! You should be able to get a package for around 300/2 nights - but try to get one which includes breakfast, as they'll set you back €14 each if you don't. And believe me - you won't want to miss their breakfast - it's fab! Look it up on Tripadvisor - there's plenty of good reviews there (including my own!)

Stayed here in august, very central and contemporary.

You should check out designhotels.com - really good site that seems to offer exactly what you're looking for-

I got this hotel on lastminute.ie
victoria park plaza - next to victoria station. 5 mins walk from the gatwick express train.
3 nights for €411 for the room - its advertised as:
"Chic, Deluxe Hotel near Buckingham Palace"

4*

and of course my understanding of chic and contemporary may differ to yours

Just a walk from Oxford st, British Museum

£115 a night at weekends and they have beautiful marble bathrooms.

http://www.malmaison-london.com/ is I believe good - and Malmaison is very trendy

I've heard recommendations about http://www.hoxtonhotels.com as well - it's run by the guy who founded the pret-a-manger trendy sandwich shops (you get a pret breakfast included) ... Location might be not great for a weekend though (it's very handy for the Stansted Express though being right by Liverpool St.) . They used to have awesomely cheap deals when they opened - but it looks a bit pricier now.

To be honest I'd say you'll struggle to find anything fab in London for £100/€150 a night (especially mid week) ... at that price point I'd say you're more likely to get the flowery decor!

Thanks a lot for the replies.

Had a good look through all of the various sites for booking hotels in London and again I have to say I was so struck by the vast savings you could make depending on which site you use to book through.

Really loved the look of the Apex hotel but felt it was too far to realistically walk into and out of the v. centre of London. Haven't been to London in about 10 years so not entirely sure about distances but it looked pretty far - although a great location.

In the end booked at The Cumberland http://www.guoman.com/guoman/hotels/

It's on the Marble Arch end of Hyde Park - therefore a reasonable walk to Theatreland etc and on good tube lines. The decor is just what we're looking for. Went a little over budget - E360 for the 2 nights but think it is well worth it. I think it's the most central hotel with modern decor for an acceptable price - at least that I could find.
Can't wait to get over there!!!

Will let you know how it works out!

Good decision! We stayed there this time last year - great hotel.
Huge plasma screens in the room, small enough rooms but decorated nicely.
One word of warning... don't come in drunk at 2am and order a toasted sandwich to the room! We paid about 25 euro each for that late night munch!
