Hi Everybody,

Is it better to use zen media explorer or windows media player for ripping CDs or does it matter?

For some reason I found that ripping using Creative MediaSource 5 (for a non Zen player) gave poor results (skipping/popping on tracks) whereas WMP11 worked fine (both with the default ripping settings). I preferred the way that WMP11 organised audio files and dealt with album art etc.

I use Creative Mediasource to download to a Zen player. I've haven't had the same problems that Clubman has had so I presume that which you choose depends on the player you use?

What matters is the codec you use. If you use Lame it will be better than the internal encoders that most applications use. Most don't come with Lame, which is free but you have to install it seperately. I use Audiograbber with Lame myself. EAC is meant to be the most accurate method.

I use MediaMonkey for playing and managing my music and love it. But it gives me random weird noise in anything I rip using it. Like static every so often. Probably just some conflict between my computer and MediaMonkey. No one else seems to have that problem.

I think that the [SIZE=-1]Fraunhofer and LAME MP3 codecs are the most common with many (most?) commercial tools using the former?
