Cayman Island residents buying in UK ?

I have a mate who is a UK resident but currently resides and works in the Cayman Islands and he's considering purchasing an investment property in the UK.

Can anyone see any legal or other financial issues that would make this problematical ?

What would his mortgage options be ?
