I was informed by a solicitor that I have to wait 3 years before selling a propery inherited from a step-parent. Under the CAT regulations it seems to me I shouldn't be obliged to pay any tax as it is considered category A for a step-child to inherit a dwelling house and the value is a lot less than the threshold. Why would I have to wait 3 years to avoid tax if this is the case? Also is the 3 year period from the date of death of the deceased person, or the date the house was transferred into my name?
