Castlecoote house

Has anyone stayed here? What was it like?

Haven't been Penny but it is very newly refurbished and is a cross between a heritage centre and luxury small hotel. Castlecoote itself is a really nice unspoilt/un-prettified pastoral area. If you're into fishing, walking (proper walking through fields that is), escaping to the country, built and natural heritage, you will probably really like it. If you like to be entertained, you won't not find very much to do; one pub in Castlecoote, no restaurant. Nearest town is Roscommon and there no cinema and few restaurants there but it's great heritage spot, if you're into it and know what you are looking for.

Thanks for your reply ... we're going to book B&B in it for our wedding anniversary at the end of November ... it looks lovely on the website ...
I know Roscommon pretty well ... we live on the Roscommon/Longford border. I haven't been to Castlecoote yet ... trying not to spoil the anticpation.
We're not too bothered about the lack of pubs or restaurants ... when you live in the midlands 40 miles is no distance for a nice dinner!
I'll let you know how it goes ... the castle part anyway!!!

Ah shure Marie, you should have said! I thought I might be talking to one of the jackeens that would be looking for the themepark style countryside - all hanging baskets and faux-Victorian street lamps and didn't want them dissapointed if they encountered some cowdung or didn't have Las Vegas on their doorstep. <ducks >

If you're on the Roscommon-Longford border, I'm probably passing you on a regular basis. Congrats on the anniversary. Have a ball in Castlecoote!
