Casio Video Problem

I have a Casio Exilim EX-Z8 camera and took some short videos when I was on holiday. This plays back great on the camera, but when I downloaded on to my PC it will not play. It is supposed to play in “Quick Time” I have the latest version and all that I get is a green screen and broken sound, other Quick Time movies play OK. I have been on to Casio support several times and they contacted Japan, which was not much help and asked a few questions. In all they said they did not have an answer, goodbye. So I have lost my holiday video shots.

Try:
01) Start -> Control Panel -> Display

02) Settings -> Advanced - Troubleshoot

03) Set Hardware Acceleration Slider to the middle

04) Apply

05) OK

06) OK

07) Close Control Panel

If that doesn't work, try disabling directdraw acceleration within quicktime itself.

If that doesn't work:

Try VLC media player - it's worth a shot.

Thanks podgerodge, you are better than Casio tech support.
I have a least a picture now but a little jumpy by changing the slider, I lost my desktop picture though. I have not tried VLC Media player yet. possible my processor is not fast enough?

Try VLC its not a big download. It should play the files.
Processor could have something to do with it if its a few years old.
Did you try disabling acceleration WITHIN quicktime player itself?

Are you on Windows XP service pack 2? - It is recommended for quicktime.

Possible solution:

download MP4cam2avi - http://downloads.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/mp4cam2avi/MP4Cam2AVI_v2.83.zip?use_mirror=heanet

extract the zip file to a folder of your choice

run the program and select the file you want to convert (if quicktime opens also just close it)
leave all defaults as they are - just select a target location

Press the start button - when finished go to that location and open the file with Windows Media Player (or VLC)
