Cashing cheque?

Hi,

Quick question and maybe a silly one but I have been given a BOI cheque and I have no account with them but can I cash this cheque that is in my name? I will be going to the branch bank of the account the cheque was written from.

Yes. Bring sufficient identification (such as driving licence and utility bill). This is particularly relevant if nobody in the branch knows you, or the amount is large.

Can't get cash up front them anymore can you? Though it has to be lodged into an account first?

if the cheque is crossed, it would usually have to be lodged into your account first.

Not quite: with most crossings, it has to be lodged into somebody's account, but not necessarily the payee's.
