Cash is still king!

I think what this shows is that cash is king for small amount transactions. In Ireland's case, 79% of all transactions were with cash but made up less than half of the value. In France it is even more stark: 68% of all transactions were with cash but made up a mere 28% of the total.

Thus it could be deduced that the buying of the newspaper or bar of chocolate is still done with cash.

I haven't seen a high denomination banknote in years - probably not since I last played poker , 10 years ago.

From my experience over the past couple of years, cash is certainly still king for the majority of tradesmen, professionals etc in this country!
