(I hope this is in right section)Jobs for car sales men always state basic + commision. Can anyone shed some info on this? What would be a basic weeks pay and how does the commision work?

This might be a better forum for the question.

Basic wage will vary depending on the dealer. Commission would usually be on the margin achieved on each sale although again, different dealers work in different ways. On top of this would be commission or 'spiff' payments for 'quality' such as finance, warranties, etc. Targets will be set on both quantity and quality and often performance against target will determine commission percentage and spiff value.

Does that help?

so if basic is nt a good offer relying on commision must be brutal....friend is in for a sales job and he hasnt done it before so was trying to get an idea and when he is told how it will work for that job he will know if its good/normal offer or a bad one.thanks for info.

I always get a little annoyed at the idea some people have regarding basic wage versus commission. If you are doing your job you will earn a wage. Its as simple as that. Of course, the commission must be demonstrable and achievable but at the same time, being paid commission isn't brutal in and of itself.

As a side note... I was going to ask this question in the Law or Employment forums and this thread has reminded me...

How does it stand in law if you were in a sales role and paid a basic hourly rate below minimum wage with commission on all sales on top of this?

Anyone any thoughts or opinions?
