Is it possible to carry forward a loss made by selling a house for less than you paid for it?

For how long can you carry forward the loss?

Say I sold a house for a loss of €150,000

In ten years time I sold my business for a gain of €500,000.

Would you just pay capital gains tax on the balance?

Yes, if the house was an investment property. As such, any gains are subject to CGT.

No, if it was your home. As such, any gains were not subject to CGT, so the losses are not allowable either.
