All thoughts appreciated.

Going to put a carpet runner down the middle of the stairs.

Question is does this look better if the runner, runs into carpet on the landing or would it look better with wood o nthe landing?

So basically a question of carpet or wood on the landing?

Thanks

Unless it is a very light carpet, you pose a risk of tripping going down the stairs which could be quite dangerous. Therefore my thoughts would be to carry the carpet throughout the landing area.

Agree with Mercman, but would also add that capreting all the way would look nicer. The carpet would make a border at the bedrooms, which seems neater to me.

The carpet on my stairs is worn on the step bend. The hall and landing carpet is perfect. I was wondering if it were possible to get a carpet separate for the stairs. Maybe do as airgead is suggesting. I would paint the stairs white and put a narrow carpet on the stairs held in place by runners. Seems a shame to carpet the whole hall, stairs and landing just because a few steps are wearing away.

I think it would depend on whether you have carpet in the hall or wood. We have carpet on the hall and landing. The guy who fit the carpet and wood was very careful to make sure that the carpet went an approx shoe length onto the landing to ensure proper grip was achieved. He also fit a special bar where the carpet finished and met the wood.

Would turning the carpet on the steps where the carpet is worn achieve anything? If you are thinking of having different carpet on the stairs compared to what is on the hall and landing it sounds pretty strange to me.

If you are having wood on the landing you could always finish the carpet on the last riser meeting the underside of a bullnose profile (that is there anyway). However, are you sanding and finishing the existing floor boards or laying an engineered/laminate floor on top? If it's the former all is well.... if its the latter you need to consider how this edge is to be finished.

I think that the carpet on your stairs can be moved slightly to hide the worn parts. I have some memory of the mother in law talking about this being done in her house. Talk to a good carpet fitter.
