Carpet for stairs?

Moving into a new house in a few weeks (Dublin area)and the current owner has removed the carpet from the stairs. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to where I could get a nice, inexpensive carpet for my stairs and landing. As im only moving in I would like to get something that will not cost the earth as I will have lots of other things to buy too and money will be tight. I would love the idea of a runner carpet for the middle of the stairs with chrome bars across the steps but think this would probably be very expensive. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you want something very cheap (but not matching your choice of what I call candystripe) then you could try Bargaintown. For €99.00 they are carpeting stairs. Probably won't last long though.

I got one or two prices recently and they were between €800 to €1,000 for stairs only but it was going the full width of the stair. IMHO the option of paintaing either side is too much hard work with regard to painting and hoovering.

Ulster, Navan or others don't appear to do this type of carpet.
