I want to clean my carpets myself instead of hiring a professional. I have heard the Rug Doctor is quite good. Is it complicated to use? Or is there any other carpet cleaner that you would recommend?

The Rug Doctor is easy to use - fill a container with hot water & cleaner, turn on vacuum/power, hold down spray button & walk backwards slowly. The rugs came out very well. I think it would do medium-long pile carpets better than v. short pile carpets. If you're near a Woodies, they had an offer last weekend where you get a free cleaner liquid (worth about €12) if you rent it (€26 for 24 hours rental) , it might still be available.

Rug Doctor is very easy to use, biggest nuisance is filling and emptying it. I did all the house last week with it, got it at 9.30, returned it at 7 as it suited me better than bringing it back in morning. Day before hoovered and moved furniture out of way, cleaned 7 rooms and 2 halls in that time, including having to return the first machine as it was not working properly, that annoyed me a bit and wasted time. You can't book the machine with Woodies which is a right pain as you have to take a chance that there will be one available the day you want it, not sure what the other suppliers do.
