Carpet cleaning products which is any good?

Have seen a couple of threads along these lines. I have cream carpets (never again with kids) anyway they are pretty badly stained. We have the same carpet on the stairs and in the bedrooms.
When we bought them was told the fleck would mean stains would not show- yeah right!!!

Well with 2 kids and the baby getting sick way too often before I can get her to a safe place, can anyone recommend good carpet cleaning products? All I have tried seem to useless Someone mentioned on another thread the rug cleaner in B&Q - is this any good and how much does it cost to rent?

Hot water, washing tabs/power, a drop of Ace, a mop, and some elbow grease.

If it's really bad you might need to hire a professional cleaner.
