Carers Benefit - where do I stand?

Hi there,
I have a 5 1/2 month old baby that is in a full body cast for a dislocated hip. I had to leave my job to mind him as he cannot go into childcare like this. My maternity benefit has finished this week. Am I entitled to Carers benefit as I cannot work?

Carers Benefit is based mainly on the qualifying conditions:-

(a) medical condition requiring full time care and attention
(b) Number of PRSI payments - see welfare.ie/carers Benefit

Carers Benefit can be availed of directly following Maternity Benefit subject to the above conditions
