Career Break Civil Service

Hi,

Any advice on Civil Service Career Breaks? I am working for the past 11 years in the general civil service. I am thinking of taking a year unpaid career break to do my masters. Different people are telling me different things in that some people can get back directly to their department once their career break finishes other people are being put on waiting lists for up to a year.. Would it be worth the risk?

Hi Zebra30, you should really speak to your Personnel/HR Department but I enquired a couple of months ago about a career break aswell and they told me that I was highly unlikely to get back into the same department, you would be put where you are needed, I was also informed of the waiting list and that I may not get back at all, but as I am at the low end of the civil service I probbaly would get back, in the end I decided not to pursue it.
