Career Break 1 Year - Tax Return Entitlements

Hi all,

I am taking a career break this year. It starts 1st September 2023 until September 2024. I am a teacher and have worked full time the last 5 years. My last pay will be on August 31st. I’m moving to Australia and plan to return for September 2024.

I am wondering;
1. What tax returns I am entitled to?
2. When is best to apply for this (as soon as career break begins and we leave or wait longer?)
3. Can claiming a tax refund impact my pay and tax when I return to the job in September 2024?

My partner will also be doing the same - primary teacher for 7 years.

Would really appreciate any help and advice on this matter as I can’t find an answer for my exact questions. Thanks

This is the only thing that may be relevant as far as I know.
And, if not that, then you can request a rebalancing of your tax affairs at the end of the year via your Revenue myAccount online account so that any overpayment due to the pro-rata apportionment of allowances/credits is adjusted for.
