Card problems with 04 Renault Megane

I've got an 04 Renault Megane saloon and recently I've had problems with the card. When I insert the card and I hit the start button, I get a rough screeching noise (the sort of noise you get when you try to turn the key to start a car thats already started). It usually takes at least 3 attempts to get the car started.

Any ideas?

Well nothing to do with the card. Probably sounds like the starter motor is not connecting properly. When the starter is turned on a gear pops out and meshes with the engine. If this is loose or maybe stiff then it wouldn't pop out fully and make a grinding sound.
