We need to change our car for something bigger, as we'll have two car seats in the back we're looking for something with 3 "proper" back seats. Anyone any recommendations, other than a people carrier or suv?

Many thanks

I have a Nissan tino and it can take 3 car seats quite comfortably. The seats are also quite high up so the kids have a great view out compared to other cars.

I had a new model Grand Scenic and it took 3 isofix in the middle row. I guess the shorter 5 seater Scenic might too, but not sure. When I went looking at Fords they told me even their big cars has only 2 isofix which I find hard to believe.

You need the shoulder width and a bit more width to get 3 seats in the back so mostly MPVs of some kind.

I have a CMAX at the moment. It has two ISOFIX and a middle seat. They are not quite individual but it is quite useable as it is wider than then Mondeo.

Cars don't get much wider than 6 feet. Otherwise they won't fit into standard parking spaces. The difference between a Toyota Corolla and a Ford Galaxy is only 4 inches.

Skoda Suberb takes three car seats with a bit of juggling. It has two isofix points, but you can't use them if there are three car seats in the back, as they hold the two seats too close together to put a third car seat in.

Hi Fraggle, can I ask what year the Grand Scenic was and why you got rid. I'm looking at a 2009 new model from the UK.

Thanks

Hi, it was a 2010, and I changed it for reasons completely unrelated to the car itself, just an unexpected change. I had no problems with it and was not intending to part with it for a long time. Of course you hear things about various models but most cars can have problems these days.

I felt it needed a bit more poke in 1st and 2nd, but the rest was grand. I took it on a holiday in Germany and felt it was very composed and had plenty of poke up at 120-150kph speeds. Not much of that around Ireland though

Only other small issue was that I felt some of the internal plastics were slightly cheap. Not the dash, but some door plastics and boot side mouldings. But it is sold as a value for money family car.

I don't believe any car except a MPV have 3 isofix in back seats. But a Ford Mondeo will fit 3 child seats in the back. May need to use the seat belts on the outer seats rather than the isofix system to give more room for the centre seat. Outer seats are rather flat which allows seats to be a bit closer to the door.
Bring 3 seats to a garage and test it. It's the only way.
