Hello. I’m looking at buying an ’06 through a private sale. The car has a 3 year warranty. Is this warranty automatically transferred to me, or is the warranty ‘nullified’ once the car is sold? Thanks.

normally it gets transferred

Is it a Toyota? If so, then it is transferred but check the owners manual first

Thanks for the replies (The car is a VW by the way). A quick follow-on question if I may.....is the warranty then valid in any VW dealership in Ireland or must I return it to the original place of purchse if anything goes wrong?

I think its the warranty of where the car was bought, usually in ireland we only get the bare minimum of 2 years warranty, but if in UK can get 3. So if you bring a car in from UK then it has 3 years warranty.

As was mentioned its the original warranty that is with the car that counts - not owner or country-- I think!!!!. But double check and make sure.

Send an e-mail here posing the same question,
I once bought a new van off a sole trader/emporter 150 mile from home and our local garage did all the work on it ie; service etc but they always gave me the rub for not buying off them,
