I am getting a newer car (ie a 2nd hand car) in the next 2 weeks.
However the tax on my current cat expires on Friday, ie Feb 29th.
I was told that you have a month to renew, ie you can continue to drive legally until March 31st, is this accurate?
I will defo have a new car by the end of March so do not want to renew it as I will not be selling the car I have, also it seems that the minimum length of time to renew your motor tax is 3 months.

5A. One month after your renewal date, motor tax arrears will become due on your vehicle.
 
Here's what the Citizens Information has to say about it. You can plead your case if you are stopped at a garda check point, and imo, and my experience, you should be ok. The traffic warden might be a different story though.
 
Tks for that, I had a quick scan and could not see anything specific re my query but will look later tonight after work:)
 
I presume it would be but I will definitely not be re-taxing that specific car so it is not relevant to me.
