Sorry for the rant but wanted to run this secnario by someone:
*Brought car to garage recently. Back brakepads were after wearing unevenly to the extent that left was totally gone and right was just at the indicator.
*At the time, the guy said it was unusual for them to wear unevenly but perhaps in cold weather or something, the callipars might have stuck (even though it looked fine to him), causing quicker (uneven) wearing on the left
.....His recommendation - Change both pads which I did.
* Less than 6 weeks later (and less than 5,000 km), right side of the car is perfect but the left brake pad is totally shot, left callipers is totally seized and left brake disc is totally scratched as a result.
* Now i was keeping calm about this until i went back to the garage and the polish mechanic who worked on the car now insists that it was expressly recommended to me last time to change the callipers!
* As a guy whose not too well up on cars, I know I would have changed the callipers the first time had I been told to do so, but i wasnt!!
*End result is I'm in for a very expensive car bill and just wondering how much I should let the garage charge.
*In my mind, I have been driving around for the last 5,000 km doing damage as the mechanic never picked up on the fact that the callipers should have been changed the first time!
