Is it possible these days for a young person (22 year old male) to get car insurance under their own name?

Plan was for them to buy car, drive accompanied & pass test hopefully in first year.

If this is possible any idea what insurers would insure him?

Having named driver cover on another policy helps.

Are you suggesting buying a car in their name but only drive it while accompanied? Insurers might consider that a little suspect if the others in the household who are most likely to be the accompanying driver already have their own cars. Might be better waiting until after the test and have them earn named driver experience that some insurers will take into account.
