hi,
anyone have any advice whats the best way to deal with bringing an irish car with irish plates taxed and insured in ireland to the uk for 3 months. I contacted the insurance company and they said they will cover for 30 days in the uk- hols. what should i do after the 30 days?? dont want to change the plates as will be back in ire after 3 months.

The insurance company is obliged to provide whatever the minimum level of cover is within another EU country. So whilst they say they will cover you in the UK for 30 days what they mean is that if your policy is comprehensive you will have comprehensive cover for 30 days. After that they will just provide road traffic act cover and the minimum amount of third party cover for the UK. They dont get to yes or no, its automatic and they are obliged to provide it.

ask them to extend. As PeteB says, they must provide MINIMUM cover in the EU country that you are in, but for a fee, they should extend the cover you currently have. If not, then name and shame!

That sounds good, thanks for that, will get in touch with the insurance company and report back with how it goes, thanks again
