Car insurance on a Japanese import

Help needed

I’m trying to buy a new car. It’s a Japanese import and that seems to be a stumbling block!

I’ve tried a couple of brokers and been told they don’t do it.

My current insurer is going to get back to me but I’m not holding my breath

Not sure why this is an issue, FBD told me it’s because they can’t verify any history. Having first told me they don’t insure any imports.. but then modified that to cars previously registered in japan. The car dealer assured me that it won’t be an issue so I’m kinda stuck now.

Anyone been there done that?

This gives a good overview on the matter. Immobilisers are not standard fitment on Japanese cars if I remember correctly making them much easier to steal so that's likely part of the problem too.

make and model will make a difference, son bought 1st car Jap import VW golf, had one refusal but no problem with Allianz, if its a model with no imobiliser you are stuck, too many being stolen with tiktok vids to accompany them online , what make model?

It’s nothing exciting enough for Tik tok. Honda fit, aka Jazz,

SuperValu came back with a reasonable quote.
