Car hire refund

We had booked our car hire for holidays in Spain in June/July. We contacted the car hire company who are only willing to give credit to our account. Am I entitled to a refund or do I have to take the credit? I booked with my visa card and am wondering is there any way I can reclaim maybe with them?

I'm assuming this was booked directly and not as part of a travel package? It would appear that many of the car hire companies are still operational, assuming this outlet is open for business, you wouldn't be entitled to a refund. Those getting refunds for travel are in cases such as where the hotel is closed or the flight isn't operating.
