I have just been informed that not all the money spent on flat refurb can be offset against CGT in HU. I am being told that only work which has required permission ie new gas central heating, extra bathroom can be offset, painting ,change of layout etc cannot.Flat is in my name not company. Anyone any idea Thanks
I'm not totally sure what you need by requiring permission, plotman. Do you mean from the house or the local government? Generally speaking, work such as painting is considered to be ongoing maintenance rather than adding value.
OK I think they mean a government approval. What I have been told is that if I spend x mil huf on a refurb then only the new items are cgt dedutable, that is to say painting, sanding floors, repairing plaster are not deductable.ie as you said these will be treated as runing repairs.I had thought that with an invoice for the complete job{as in UK]the total would be deductable.
