Canvas covering for front door.

Does anyone know where I can get one of those canvas sun coverings to cover my front door. Usually seen on coastal houses. More fashionable 50 years ago.

What's the purpose of these? Have noticed them on a few older period houses, always wondered what they are for.

Primarily to stop paint fading or blistering from sunlight. I loved seeing the house in Mount and Fitzwilliam streets and around Merrion Square in their summer "frocks".

Not for everyone, looks pure silly, like an apron draped over a beautiful hardwood door.

Yes, they date back to a time where UV stabilisation wasn't available and lead based paints would bubble in direct sunlight.

Really no need for them now. They're expensive and will start to look tatty if left out in the rain.
