Can you extend a council house?

Just wondering if you can extend a council house, we are tenants and are unable to get mortgage, at present. We'd like to extend our kitchen area, have good room at the back, but are semi detached. Do the council allow you to do this?

I doubt it, not as a tenant, but you'll have to ring your Council for a definite answer.

I think you used to be able to do this if you were buying a council house, but I don't think that option exists anymore, its either Social, Affordable or Sheltered.
