Can wall tiles be butt-jointed?

Need to redecorate downstairs loo after replacement of loo & sink as there are chunks out of walls. I thought getting a plasterer in would sort it out but my husband reckons it would cost a lot and it would be better to go for tiles. But I dislike grout and wonder if wall tiles can be installed in the same way as I've seen floor tiles, i.e. with no noticeable gap between?

you could do that with rectified porcelain tiles, minimal expansion, so souldn't cause problems. Only thing is you'll need a good tiler.
