Tax relief is available on refuse charges but can Tenant claim Refuse Tax credit?
I'm renting in a house where I pay the refuse charge but do not get the benefit of the refuse credit. Am i entitled to this credit?
Possible (or probable) that it will never be queried by Revenue, but on the off chance that it is/would be in the future I'd certainly hold onto proof of the payment (e.g. receipt for payment/electronic transfer, invoice for charges [if included in management fees, a breakdown of the fees to detail the refuse charge] etc.).
Tax credit (not relief), is claimed by the person who pays the refuse charges. Whoever claims the relief holds onto proof of payment (tag stub, invoice & receipt etc) for 6 years as required by revenue as if they audit they will look for all financial records for the previous 6 years.
