Can shop increase a price already invoiced

Hi,

Put a deposit on wooden floors, went back in a few days later and decided that I only could afford to get 3 rooms done instead of 4. The guy in the shop was not happy with this understandably. He then told me that he had given me the wrong price for the other floors and it would now cost me about 200 euro more. Do I have the right to demand the original price as it was his mistake??
 


In my opinion you have changed the contract by deciding to do 3 rooms instead of 4, in which case it's a different job and I think that they are within their rights to change the terms. I'd suggest though that you give the National Consumer Agency a call on Lo-call 1890 432 432.
 
The wood for the 3 rooms hasn't changed, the wood for the 4th room was a different wood, these different wood were itemised on the invoice
 
he will argue and quite resonably that you got a reducdd price on the work due to volume. Reduce volume = changed contract = right to change price.
 
there was no reduction in price in the first place, he has admitted that he put the wrong price on the invoice
 
The problem is that you want to change the contract.
For example, when they specified the Tallaght Hospital they did not make the doors wide enough in the plans. This was spotted before the building started, but all the contracts were in place. To change the plans would involve a new contract and the price would have gone up. They waited until the building was finished and signed off, knocked out all the doors, widen the entrances and put in new doors. A fine example of our tax money at work.

thanks for all the replies, but i think it's not worth the hassle, i'll take my deposit off and spend my money elsewhere
 
they have actually said that they would perfer to give me my money back than to take the loss on orginal quoted price
 
If they're so willing to refund your deposit it then sounds like they made an honest mistake.
 
As matter of interest if you had gone ahead and had the four rooms done - was he still going to change the price?
 
Go to Noyeks in Ballymount, they'll always do a decent deal on wood.
