Hi if you are nearly at the end of the JB stamps earned from working in Ireland. Can anyone tell me if you can extend job seekers benefit (after 9 months) by claiming stamps(8 years work) that were earned while working in the UK in the 80's.

The person claiming is an Irish Citizen but was working in the UK in the early 80's

Regards, Oldman

oldman;

Am fairly sure answer is no.

This maybe an unnecessary comment on your Uk (stamps) , if so ignore please
With 8 years in Uk stamps you have paid for partial Uk pension.Worth checking.
With ? years in Roi stamps you have paid for partial Roi pension. Worth checking.

Regards, Gerry.

I don't think how long the Job Seekers benefit is extended due to work history. It is paid for 9 months and then it is means tested. If they meet the criteria under the means test, their dole is continued to be paid.

Not 100% though but fairly sure.

As the other posters have said, Jobseeker's Benefit can't be extended by counting contributions in the manner you have suggested.
