Can I reclaim taxes on unused flight tickets?

Booked flights with Aer Lingus for next March for 6 people. Two of these will not be able to travel - my question is, can I get the govt taxes refunded and if not (which I assume is the case) where does that money go?

I believe you can get them refunded however you may find there is a charge to process this which will possibly negate the amount due anyway.

As I understand the answer is YES, but the policy varies by airline. You can always change the bookings for a €25 fee with Aer Lingus, which may be more cost effective depending on the original price. (i.e. Use them for a different trip)

What annoys me is that the fare is almost nothing, but you pay airport charges, taxes, booking fees, insurance surchares, fuel surcharges, etc. - but when you cancel only the taxes are refunded. Rip Off or what?

"Refunds are not permitted on Aer Lingus bookings with the exception of Premier
Class Transatlantic bookings.

Unused taxes and charges are fully refundable on all bookings.

Handling and booking fees are not refundable."
