Can I change over from Contributory Widow's Pension to None Contributory?

I am receiving a prorata Contributory Widow's Pension at the moment from the Irish Sector as I'm receiving one from Switzerland. The Swiss Widow's Pension ends in February 2013.

Will I be able to apply for a None-Contributory Widow's Pension from Ireland after that happens? I hope so as I'm on a CE scheme, which also ends in February 2013, and if I'm unable to find work, I'll have no income at all.

Yes you can apply for a Non-Contributory widow's/survivor's pension (means tested) if it would be more beneficial than your rate after your Swiss pension ceases.

This is a slightly unusual situation as a full or 98% is generally awarded.

Perhaps you should have your Irish widows Contributory pension reviewed (before applying for Non-Con) when the Swiss pension is nearing the end

Thank you for your reply Black Sheep. I will check with them about 3 months before it ends in case it takes some time to sort it out. Have been trying to get some info on it but think I might phone the Swiss Embassy in Dublin to find out more. Thanks again for your info.

I think the percentage is because of the Bilateral Law that is in place. It lands up that I get less than if I had only the Irish widow pension, but it keeps me going for now. Thanks again.
