I have been permanetly employed in the same US multi-national company for 6+ years. In March 2009, I moved from a Team Lead role in operational side of the business, into a new role where I was responsible for delivering a number of projects that would ultimately ensure that the department was more efficent and compliant in it's processes. I received a new contract. My projects are due to complete at the end of June and I have been advised that there are no further projects needing dedicated PM time. (this is not what was foreseen or planned back in 2009 when I accepted the position) My work will revert to operational day to day activity - a position I was promoted out of 5 years ago, one level below where I was until March 09. Today I have been advised that there is a possibility that my salary will be reviewed downwards to bring it in line with other collegues doing the operational work.
I held two positions of great responsibility and I took on high profile project work for this company.I have sacraficed a lot personally to do what was expected of me in these roles including excessive overtime and weekend hours. I feel very emotional about the recent turn of events (that's why my post is so factual!!!) I feel let down and my confidence has taken a knock (Is this all I'm worth after 6 years!!) My gut instinct is to get out before I get completely demoralised and demotivated but I'm at the stage in my life where I'm thinking about marriage, owning our house etc. and don't want to rush into a bad decision.
I need some advice! Can I ask for redundancy as the role I'm in is effectively gone after June? Do I have to take the other position if this is all that's on offer to me? even if this is with a salary cut....
