Can a mechanical vent be placed in toilet in middle of house?

We have a toilet located downstairs but there is no window or possibility of putting in a window as it is in middle of house. Is it possible to install a mechanical vent and if so is ot a big job?

Would a plumber or electrician be required to do this job.
 
Yes, this is possible & acceptable. I have the exact installation in my own home. It is an electrician's job. I have the duct for the extractor fan passing through our pantry to reach the external wall and the ducting is then just boxed in.

Just make sure that you do duct the extractor to outside though!
 
Depending on which direction you duct in (up or across) you have to maintain the fireproofing of -

(i) the ground floor ceiling/1st floor zone of
(ii) the external cavity wall

at 30 minutes fire resistance .

If going vertically, the hole for the extract should be sealed around it to not allow moist air into the attic space.
If going horizontally the duct through the wall should be angled down from inside to out to direct any water ingress towards the outer surface of the wall.

In layman's terms ONQ means that your ducting needs to have 30 minutes of fire resistance if it passes through your ceiling or external wall.

I doubt if the plastic covers fitted inside as supplied with the fans and ducting can give a 30min fire rating
 
They don't, but you could make a fireproof dict which does :)
