Can a married student claim back DIRT on savings?

Hi there,

I've just finished my degree. I had some substantial savings in a Rabo account which I inherited.

I paid DIRT on this account for the past four years. My question is, am I entitled to claim back the DIRT as I was not working? Does this entitlement depend on my husband's salary...ie is it means-tested?

I did check citizens info but there tax bit is missing a few webpages!

Anyone know what the case is here?

cheers mica

There are exemptions from DIRT but to my memory you would have to be either over 65 or physically/mentally disabled. I don't think not working would be enough to claim an exemption from DIRT.

I see. I remember I managed to claim back PAYE when I left work. At least, I think I did! So I thought it would be the same with DIRT. Hmmm pity that! Thanks for reply though.

Many thanks mathepac...that will keep me busy. Well, better to be sure than sorry. :)
