Camping : Nantes area vs. Nice area

The Squonks are having fierce problems choosing their summer camping holidays in France. At this point it looks like its a choice between camping around the Nantes area or the Nice area. Essentially our choices are dictated by flights from Cork and costs. We plan to fly-drive late June/early July. Can anyone give the pros and cons of each area? From what I gather trawling through the AAM posts and talking to friends:
Nantes area: less expensive, weather more tempermental, rough seas, cheaper to get to
Nice area : expensive, better weather, seas are fine, more expensive to travel to
can anyone add to this list? I'm presuming the quality of camp sites in both area would be similar? Thanks.
 
Quality of camp sites varies all over France, in that you'll get sites of different standards in every part. It depends on your budget (Doesn't everything?). Most, if not all, local authorities run their own sites, usually known as 'municipal' camp sites. These are basic, but clean and cheap.

On the other end of the scale, you have the Les Castels chain, most of which are, or used to be, based in the grounds of chateaux. Have a look at http://www.les-castels.com/en/

When my daughter was Inter-railing a few yrs back she camped in Antibes between Nice & Cannes & found it very good for visiting Nice, Monaco, Monte Carlo etc & also a lot cheaper. Why not look up campsites in this area? You're close without the extra expense.
