camera keeps saying 'card not initialised'

Have you tried putting the card in a card reader to see if you can read it directly on your PC?

I had the same error reading on my Fuji. Basically I was told that if you initialise the card it wipes it clean. I could not upload it onto a pc but a photograpic studio ran it through a system recovery program and was able to retrieve the images and put them on a CD. (This cost very little and you could probably do it yourself if you downloaded the software from the net).

Then the card was initialised and usable.
I think that error occurs if the camera is switched on or off during the uploading/printing process.
 
Clubman, I tried uploading by putting the card directly into laptop but it says the card is not formatted and asks if I want to format it. I was afraid to say yes as I have heard that this way I can defintely lose all the photos and even recovery software won't get them back. I think I will go with Igora suggestion and take to photo studio to get sorted.
