Calling waiting....available, yet not. Can anyone advise how to use it?

I've bought a Wharfdale IN 120

It has call waiting as a feature which is essential as my OH is often on call.

There are no details on how to use is in the manual.

After going back & forth with Argos (who provide the "technical support") they reckon that the feature probably means that the phone will beep to notify me there is a call waiting - and thats the limit of the facility???

My last 2 phones had call waiting & I could go from one call to the other & back again.

Anyone any advice on if & how I can use it on this phone?

Does the phone have an R button? If so, when you hear the beep beep to indicate a call waiting, you press R1 to end the current call and switch to the waiting call, and R2 to put the current call on hold and switch to the waiting call.
