Calculating total sq footage

Hi
I got a number of room dimensions/sizes - length by width in feet

How do i go about calcualating the overall sq footage of the house from these room dimensions

Its easier to just measure the length and width of the house otherwise just multiply each room dimensions and add them all up. it wont give you an accurate reading though if it isn't taking all areas into consideration i.e hall, landing etc.
 
measure the outside dimensions, then allow 1 foot for the external walls, the multiply length by width to find internal floor area.
 
Sounds like he might be working off a sales brochure which generally have individual room sizes.
 
If it is from an EA's brochure take the dimensions with a pinch of salt...plus the chances are they aren't properly handling rooms that are not rectangular/square correctly.
