calculating customs tax when purchasing from US

Apologies if I have posted in the wrong place, or if this has been asked before. I was wondering if their is a method or a website that can help you calculate cutom tax, on goods purchased from the US.

Thank you for that, heavy reading for some online shopping. I would have thought there would be an easier way to to calculate import tax, on items bought online.

Well there you go, sometimes you have to dig. You could ask the online retailers shipping to your location to post better information about potenital import duties?

Maybe ring the An Post sorting depots in Athlone or Portlaoise, and ask for the Revenue staff??

Very reasonable question - and I agree with you, it should be much easier in this day and age.
