I opened a Nationwide Uk Ireland Euro Regular Saver account in October 2013,deposited €1000 a month for the 15 month period. Balance was just under the €15,265 to avail of the 4% interest. Rang last week to close the a/c and get balance transfered to my current a/c. Interest was paid twice,in March this year,€39 and at a/c maturity....got €198,is that not a bit low?
The blurb on their website says "if you saved €500 a month for 12 months without making any withdrawals, you would earn gross interest of €130 by the anniversary of the first deposit and €201.30 at the end of the 15 month term based on the current variable rate of 4.00% AER / 5.04% Gross." So thats €201.30 interest by putting in €500 a month.......I earned €198 interest by putting in €1000???That can't be right.

The example that NUK have provided yielding 201.30 after 15 months is the gross interest excluding DIRT at 41%, so the actual amount you would receive from paying 500 per month would be 118.77 after DIRT has been removed.

Depositing 1000 per month you would receive around 400 in gross interest after 15 months which would be around 234 after DIRT has been removed. The figures you actually received (39 and 198) both show the interest amounts after DIRT has been paid and together add up to 237 in total. So that seems about right.

Ah OK, thanks for that. It's sickening that I've to pay so much DIRT tax on earnings that I've already paid tax on(and took me years to accumulate)
Still seems the best paying regular saver a/c out there, pity I can't avail of it again.
